Silver Plating of Srimandir doors to Start

Work for silver plating of the 12th-century Srimandir doors would start within 10 days as per a decision taken in the temple body meeting held on Wednesday. It is estimated that about 2.5-tonne silver would be used for reinforcing the wooden doors with silver.

As per sources, a Mumbai-based devotee expressed his willingness to donate the required silver. Experienced silver artisans deputed by the donor would do the work amid tight security in the Niladri Bhakta Niwas campus, temple body member Anant Tiadi said.

Another 11 doors including Mahalaxmi, Bimala and Nrusingha temples located in the temple complex, would be remade and silver-plated during Rath Yatra next year. Since almost all the temple wooden doors were worn out, new wooden doors would be made with quality teak wood.

Silver plating design would be finalised in the next meeting scheduled for 9th November 2021.
