Stage-4: Breast Cancer Awareness cum book launched by Rotary International in Bhubaneswar

Symptoms of breast cancer are on the rise in women. The disease affects 2.1 million women every year and about 15% of women die of cancer. However, the International Rotary Club of 3292 District and the Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar Smiley have launched a book for breast cancer awareness.

The Breast Cancer Awareness program was recently flagged off by District Governor, RID-3262 Sri. Saumya Ranjan Mishra and President RCB Smile, Lalitendu Mohanty on International Cancer Awareness Day, Saturday at Padmaja Convention. To commemorate the occasion a book titled “STAGE-4: Love, Trauma & Redemption” written by debutant author Rtn. Soumya Mohanty from Rotary Club Smile was launched by dignitaries from Rotary such as Special Guest,  Rotary International President-Elect Shekhar Mehta, Chief Guest,  Rotary International Director-Elect Dr. Mahesh Kotbagi. Director Fortis Hospital, Bengaluru Dr. Niti Raizada, was Guest Speaker and Bollywood Director Mani Shankar and Ollywood Actor Sabyasachi were Guests of Honour. The programme was well attended virtually by Rotarians from all over the world including Past District Governors. Many PDG’s from 3262 were present at the venue of the meeting.

Stage-4 is a poignant, real-life story of love and loss in the backdrop of cancer. The author’s personal account of his beloved’s encounter with a formidable adversary, CANCER, and the mental and emotional trauma of seeing a loved one suffer and wage a battle against the dreaded disease is from a layman’s perspective.

The main purpose of the event was to address one of Rotary’s Seven Areas of Focus, namely, Disease Prevention by raising awareness of breast cancer. On the occasion, the author Soumya Mohanty has pledged the proceeds from the sale of the book to Rotary for the noble cause of fighting cancer.
