‘Period room’ for slum women

To provide hygienic sanitary facilities during menstruation of women, a first-of-its-kind initiative taken at the public toilet, a ‘period room‘ has been set up at a public toilet in Maharashtra’s Thane city. According to OrissaPost report, the facility is equipped with a urinal, jet spray, toilet roll holder, soap, running water and a dustbin.

Collaborating with NGO the Thane Municipal Corporation has set up this room for women at a slum in Shanti Nagar locality of Wagle Estate area. On the outer wall of the toilet block are painted with colourful pictures with messaged to maintain hygiene during menstruation.

As the women living in small houses don’t have separate bathrooms/change rooms during periods, many times they find it difficult to change. So, this facility will be boon for such kind of women.
