Rasagulla Dibas in Odisha Today

The state celebrates the day of sweets, “Rasagulla Dibas”, (syrupy milk based dessert) to reaffirm Odisha as the place of the dish origin, every year as a part of Holy Trinity’s Niladri Bije ritual day (when the Lord Jagannath and his siblings enter into the Srimandir after eleven days of Chariot festival).

As per Niladri Bije, on this day the ‘Mahaprabhu’ the Great God, Lord Jagannath offers Rasgulla in a earthen pot on the last day of Rath Yatra festival to his annoyed beloved wife Goddess Laxmi to pacify her for not being taken along during chariot ride.
