Chitou Amavasya celebrated in Odisha on the new moon day of the lunar month of Shravana month.
On this day, the people of the state make a special variety of rice cake named as ‘Chitau Pitha’ which is offered to Lord Jagannath.
The rice pancake, basically prepared with mixture of soaked rice, coconut, and salt to taste. To make it more delicious you can add banana and curd.
Usually in rural areas of the state this festival is celebrated as an agricultural festival.
As per tradition the farmers prays to appease evil powers through worship; whether they are animals, serpents, inspects or plants. People worship and pray them to avoid their work field.
