BCCI declared names of the new national selectors. They are Chetan Sharma(from North Zone) , Abey Kuruvilla(from West Zone) and Debashish Mohanty(from East Zone). They are finalised by the Cricket Advisory Committee(CAC) head Madan Lal (ex India medium pacer). He conducted online interviews to select the deserving candidates for the three vacant posts.
Debashish Mohanty replaced Devang Gandhi from the East Zone. Mohanty is receiving many well wishes for his great success. The 44 year old cricketer played 45 ODIs, Two Tests and 1999 World Cup. Presently Mohanty will be in the senior panel for only two years. The new committee’s first vital responsibility is preparing the list of squad to be sent to England. This tour of Indian team will be in the months of February to March. The matches to be conducted during this tour includes four Tests, five T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals.
“Its a proud moment for whole Odisha after Debashish Mohanty is finalised as one of the new national selectors. This also brought a golden oppurtinity for the cricketers of Odisha. The cricketers will have to perform the best of their level to get selected for playing in the Indian Cricket team or in the IPL match”, said Pawan Agarwal, ex Ranji cricketer.
“Debashish deserved to remain in the post. Its a matter of happiness on listening he is among the senior national selectors. Now door is opened for the Odia cricketers. Not only Odisha but in the Eastern zone those players will perform best will come to light “, said Biplab Samantray, Ranji cricketer.
“After knowing about Debashish Mohanty new responsibility as Odia we are very proud. Hoping Odia cricketers names will be recommended whenever selection will be done for any cricket team. I started playing under guidance of Debashish Mohanty. Since 7 years he remained our trainer. So his new responsibility brought happiness for other players. For 2 years he was working as Junior selector and now his selection among the national selectors show new light of hope”, said Govinda Poddar.
Debashish seems to be very happy after being declared as one among the senior national selectors by BCCI. Once upon a time he was playing for Indian team and now he will be selecting the players for Indian team.
He also thanked BCCI for giving him such a huge responsibility.
