The Odia Veteran Singer Singer Susmita Das recently presented her social awareness song titled ‘Prithvi Manthan’ – The 2nd Churning, that fuses Shiv Thandav Stotram with the concept of Climate Change and Pollution. The social awareness song published on YouTube on May 29, 2021.
What is the 2nd Churning?
Sagar Manthan (Churning of the Sea): In Hindu mythology, the Gods and the Demons joined up to churn the seas to extract the hidden treasure. But the skimming also produced ‘Halahal’, the most vicious poison that threatened to destroy the entire universe. Lord Shiva came to everyone’s rescue and swallowed the poison to save the universe.
Prithvi Manthan (Skimming of the Earth): This is an analogy for the over-exploitation of natural resources to meet our greed and unsustainable lifestyle. In the process, like ‘Halahal’ in Samudra Manthan, Green House Gases and Pollutants are deadly by-products, which have grown to such proportions that the very existence of humankind now stands jeopardized.
In the song, the maker beseeches divine intervention from Lord Shiva to absorb these poisons or give us collective and individual strength to imbibe this venom that has been the maker’s creation.
Prithvi Manthan is composed in the backdrop of ‘Shiv Tandav Strotram’. The Tandav is an energetic and virile dance by Lord Shiva to the beats of the Damru, the two-headed drum and Shiv Tandav Strotram is a high-pitched rhythmic chanting of the hymns written and composed by Ravana – the Demon King to appease Lord Shiva and seek his blessings.
From the Concept of Siddhanta Das, Dev Meher has directed the song. While Susmita Das has lend her voice in it. Music composed by Om Prakash Mohanty, Lyrics penned by Shivkumar Bilagrami, DOP by Pratap Rout, Ollywood Actress Suryamayee Mohapatra has acted in the social message video. Choreography by Amit Nayak, VFX Supervisor by Praveen Kanshi, Programming by Anshu. Under the Auromira Entertainment Production, the entire video Recording Mixing Masterin was held in JCK studio.
With the support of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and backed by UN bodies like International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Jungle Lodges and Resorts (JLR), Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) the song based on the concept of Climate Change has touched the heart of many.
